The Rachel A. Thomas Scholarship Fund is a 501 (c) (3) organization founded on June 27, 2019. In furtherance of our mission, we are seeking applicants for a scholarship award in the amount of four scholarships worth $500 each. These will be awarded to one JROTC Senior at North Point School, one North Point High School Senior from the Criminal Justice Program one North Point High School Girls Basketball Senior and one North Point High School Senior Cheerleader
The Rachel A. Thomas Scholarship Fund honors the life of the late Rachel A. Thomas.
We want to ensure Rachel's dedication to community service and caring for others continues to motivate student scholars to be yourself and become successful in their abilities to purse higher education and community involvement to affect change.
Rachel departed life peacefully on November 11, 2018, and was in her junior year at North Point High School, Charles County Maryland.
Rachel grew up in Waldorf, Maryland. She was due to graduate from North Point High School in 2020 with aspirations of attending Howard University to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. Her goal was to become a Jag Officer in the United States Air Force. She was a Master Sergeant of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. She commanded the Air Force JROTC Drill Team at the Veterans Day ceremony at the Department of Education in Washington D.C.
She was a well-rounded student-athlete who was consistently on the honor roll and a member of the junior varsity girls’ basketball team and captain of the junior varsity football cheerleading team. During her time at North Point, Rachel received numerous academic awards and accolades. That included the Air Force JROTC Tuskegee Airmen certificate of achievement for superior performance in the cadet corps. The Rachel A. Thomas Leadership Award is given annually to the student that best exemplifies service before self and excellence in all you do.
With a gregarious personality, Rachel had a zest for life that touched the lives of many with her infectious smile. She donated shoes and clothes for numerous families that were impacted by Hurricane Michael in North Carolina in October of 2018.
Rachel was a devoted member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church as a Youth Worship leader, Usher, youth choir member, she assisted with the church hospitality ministry and attended annual "ROCK" Youth Retreat. She was employed with Charles County Parks and Recreation at William Wade Elementary School. She volunteered numerous hours through the Criminal Justice Program in Charles County Maryland and North Point High School. She also appeared as McGruff the Crime Dog at National Night Out for community neighborhoods in Southern Maryland and during Cobb Island Day.
